Zjistili to odborníci při tvorbě plemenné knihy tohoto jelena, jejímž vydáním Světová asociace zoologických zahrad a akvárií pověřila Zoologickou zahradu Olomouc. Siku vietnamského chová 39 zoo, z toho 35 v Evropě. Druhé největší stádo siků vietnamských mimo Vietnam je v zoo Olomouc a čítá 25 jedinců, sdělil ČTK vědecký pracovník olomoucké zoo a koordinátor Evropského programu pro siku vietnamského Jan Pluháček, který je garantem plemenné knihy.
