Sitka DIY: Doing Time in the Sitka Silver Mine Doing Time in the Sitka Silver Mine One of the definitions of the word “mine” is: a rich source of supply. In that regard, it seems that Alaska is a fish mine for many, with plentiful fish available to harvest and enjoy. Certain species are more plentiful than others. For example, Chinook salmon are the largest but least abundant of all salmon in North America. They are arguably the most desired by sport anglers. However, they’ve been at a period of low abundance for the past several years. Pink salmon are the smallest and most numerous. However, they’re the least desired. Perhaps it’s their size, or that their meat is not as rich or as deeply colored as other species. Coho salmon strike an interesting balance. They’re not as large as Chinook but are larger than pinks. Their fat content is not as high as a Chinook’s, but the meat is flavorful and richly colored. Coho are much more numerous than Chinook, but not as numerous as pinks. Coho Post: 2 November 20:19

Post: 12 July 16:29

A beaver may seem like a harmful animal, but in fact his diligence and desire to transform landscapes for himself are so strong that they are more than successful. What kind of landscape does a beaver need? Swampy. With bushes that have delicious bark, with a deep enough reservoir in which you can stash branches for the winter until spring. How is this beneficial to nature? For example, during one year, a hectare of wetlands absorbs 7-15 times more carbon dioxide from the air than a hectare of forest: 550-1800 kg; and emits 7-15 times more oxygen: 260-700 kg. Numerous mollusks and aquatic insects settle in the spill created by beavers, which in turn attract muskrats and waterfowl. The fish, once in favorable conditions (and the beaver deepens the reservoir and creates a network of channels), begins to multiply faster. Trees felled by beavers serve as food for hares and many ungulates, which gnaw bark from trunks and branches. The sap flowing out of the eroded trees in spring is lPost: 25 March 03:49

With that in mind, let’s take a few minutes to ensure your shots count this year in the dove field. The fundamentals of shooting a shotgun are vital to becoming a successful dove hunter, as there are many things that contribute to actually hitting the target. You must avoid mental breakdowns and learn how to keep your mind from getting in the way of your fundamentals. In this article we will look in-depth at what those fundamentals are. Stance Your stance when shooting a shotgun should be different from shooting other guns. The placement of your feet is critical in having a smooth motion when taking a shot. For right-handed shooters, stand with your left foot in front of your right, about shoulder width apart or just under. Tarkine Wilderness Hunting Calendar: When the Ancient Rainforest Reveals Its Game - Wallaby, Deer and Wilderness Pursuits Hunting Regulations & Seasonal Framework in The Tarkine Wilderness The Tarkine Wilderness operates under Tasmania's strict Nature Conservation Act with year-round hunting permitted only for Bennett's wallaby under license, while all other game hunting is prohibited within this protected area. Fallow deer hunting is allowed in adjacent production forests from March to August, following statewide seasons. The region's hyper-oceanic climate creates challenging hunting conditions - annual rainfall exceeding 2,000mm limits access to brief dry periods (typically February-March and October-November). Unlike other Tasmanian hunting zones, the Tarkine maintains absolute prohibitions on all firearm use within its 447,000-hectare boundary, reflecting its status as Australia's largest temperate rainforest. Private property owners sue over Virginia’s hunting dog law WILSONS, Va. — Soon after Jim Medeiros bought his 143-acre (58-hectare) cattle and poultry farm in rural Virginia a decade ago, he and his wife were startled by the sounds of 20 hunting dogs barking and howling as they circled their house and chased their chickens When Medeiros confronted a hunter nearby, the man told him he had permission to hunt on Medeiros’ property. In disbelief, Medeiros called the agency that enforces a state law allowing hunters to retrieve their hunting dogs from private property, even when the property owners object. “He told me, you can’t prohibit people from coming onto your land,” recalled Medeiros. He then pointed out that his land was posted with no trespassing signs. “I said, ‘You don’t understand. My land is posted,'” Medeiros said. You don’t understand,” the official responded. “You can’t stop them.” After years of putting up with baying dogs and dead chickens, Medeiros and several other propePost: 17 May 11:58
🇺🇸 Early wake-ups and late evenings is what roebuck hunting is all about. In between, long hours of planning the “best” strategy for that one buck which keeps your hunter and you awake during the short sleeping hours of the night. What will the wind do? Will the females around him spot us and run away scuppering our chances of success? When hunting for such special bucks, usually nothing ever comes as planned over so many times in your mind. But sometimes, when everything is perfect, it simply happens, finding yourself just a few meters away from the buck of your dreams. The rest is history.
