Florida hunters capture more than 80 giant snakes in Python Bowl Most visitors to the mosquito-infested swamps of the Florida Everglades are happy to leave again quickly: a half-hour airboat ride and photograph of a basking alligator is usually enough to satisfy the curiosity of any tourist keen to return to the theme parks and beaches – or sports events – of the sunshine state’s more traditional attractions. But Mike Kimmel wouldn’t be anywhere else. The professional wildlife trapper and self-styled python cowboy’s most recent excursion into the uninhabitable backwaters of the famed River of Grass region was rewarded with the grand prize in this year’s extra-special version of the annual Python Challenge encouraging the public to catch as many of the invasive giant snakes that decimate native wildlife as possible. Scheme to protect hen harriers in England a waste of money, says wildlife group Wild Justice says government initiative to relocate broods away from grouse moors ‘rewards past crimes’ of illegal killing A £900,000 government scheme to “meddle” with nests of hen harriers is a waste of money and rewards those who kill them, a wildlife campaign group has said. The claims are contained in a report produced by Wild Justice and released to coincide with the Glorious Twelfth, the official start of the grouse shooting season, on Saturday. Grouse moor gamekeepers have historically killed hen harriers illegally because they eat smaller birds, including grouse. Since the start of a government brood management scheme in 2018, 98 hen harriers have been confirmed as missingin suspicious circumstances or are known to have been illegally killed in the UK, many of them on or close to English grouse moors. In order to combat the problem of the birds, which are endangered in the UK, continually going

Prince Franz Joseph II of Liechtenstein surrounded by his hunting trophies. Bavaria. Trizonia. August 1949. In August 1949, a striking photograph captured Prince Franz Joseph II of Liechtenstein standing proudly amidst an impressive display of hunting trophies in a grand room of a Bavarian hunting lodge. The image, taken during a period of political transition in postwar Europe, offers a compelling blend of old-world aristocracy, personal tradition, and the complex cultural landscape of a continent rebuilding itself. Though Liechtenstein itself is a small Alpine principality nestled between Switzerland and Austria, Prince Franz Joseph II had strong familial and cultural ties to Bavaria, particularly through the noble House of Liechtenstein’s extensive estates and historical connections to the German and Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. The location of the photograph—likely one of the family’s traditional retreats or a lodge belonging to allied nobility—was in the heart of Bavarian hunti

Hunting in SIDI BOUZID: Terrain and Ecological Features, Hunter Demographics and Participation in Tunisia (PART II) Hunting Organizations and Local Clubs While Sidi Bouzid does not have a large number of formal hunting clubs, there are smaller, informal groups dedicated to managing hunting activities and maintaining relationships with local authorities. These groups play a vital role in ensuring that hunting remains sustainable and within legal boundaries. Local hunters often gather in community-based organizations where they can share hunting tips, organize group hunts, and discuss seasonal trends. Although these clubs may not be as well-established as in urban centers, they are essential in preserving hunting traditions and promoting responsible practices. These local networks also help maintain access to private lands, a key factor in securing hunting grounds in the region. Controversial spring bear hunt up for debate in Washington The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will hear a report Friday on potential changes to the 2022 spring bear hunt season. However, several conservation groups said special permits to hunt black bears in the spring should not be issued at all. The groups said the hunts cruelly kill bears just as they’ve emerged from hibernation with cubs in tow. “There's a reason why we don't hunt any other species during the spring – other than turkeys – because spring is an important time for all species in which they're recovering from the winter,” said Claire Loebs Davis, board president, Washington Wildlife First, a conservation group. After hibernation, Loebs Davis said, bears are on the verge of starvation, making the bears sluggish, slow and easy to kill. “Starvation is forcing them into clearings and in areas where the only food is available – where they are easy for hunters to find and shoot,” she said. As bears emerge from

Hunting in Mai-Ndombe: Natural Environment, Local Hunting Culture, and Wildlife Diversity Geography and Natural Features in Mai-Ndombe Mai-Ndombe Province lies in western Democratic Republic of the Congo and is defined by its vast wetlands, dense tropical forests, and the expansive Lake Mai-Ndombe, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country. The landscape is dominated by seasonally flooded plains, riverine systems, and swampy basins, forming rich ecosystems that support diverse flora and fauna. The province's remoteness and ecological variety make it a unique region for traditional hunting. Demographic Overview and Hunting Involvement The population of Mai-Ndombe is composed largely of rural communities such as the Teke, Ntomba, and Bolia peoples. Hunting is a central activity for many of these groups, used not only for sustenance but also as a social and spiritual practice. Due to limited access to formal employment and markets, bushmeat remains a crucial resource, often h

Angola While hunting is not currently taking place on a commercial basis in Angola it is looking like a new hot spot and may open up by 2025 with some outstanding Elephant and Cape Buffalo available. We recently looked at some hunting areas in the Cuando Cubango Province near Mavinga and I personally saw buffalo over 45 inches and bull Elephant in the 60–70-pound range. There is already a very nice lodge in place and once the CITES details are worked out this will be the prime area for most hunts in Angola. The first few hunters in country will definitely get the hunting opportunity of a lifetime. If you are interested contact us so we can keep you posted on the progress being made and we can place you on our waiting list so you don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to open a new safari area!!

Talarik Creek Lodge: Hunting for Trophy Rainbow Trout I answered him that it was not, and he shrugged off the 18-inch Arctic grayling on the end of my line like it was a piece of weed. My wife had sent us fishing that evening to catch some fresh grayling for dinner and our goal was now achieved, with four large, translucent-white-fleshed fish having been plucked from the cold waters of the Newhalen River. The author’s son Lucas with what he calls “a real fish” also defined as any rainbow trout over 20 inches caught on a fly rod. What is it about rainbow trout that incites such excitement? Why is it that when fishing guides congregate around a fire the conversation always finds its way to rainbows, not salmon, not char, not pike, but definitely rainbows? “Keep it in the water,” “Careful, don’t drop it,” and “Nice release,” are all phrases I’ve heard said and spoken myself. I have a personal admiration for the green-speckled creatures, and rainbow trout fishing has a cult following tha
