Bull Riding Rat Taxidermy Creating a Bull Riding Rat taxidermy piece involves a blend of creativity and traditional taxidermy techniques. Here's a simplified process: Preparation: First, a rat specimen is carefully skinned, and the hide is preserved through tanning to prevent decay and maintain its shape. Form Creation: A custom form or mannequin is created to fit the rat's size and pose. For this unique piece, the form would be adjusted to make the rat appear as if it's riding a small model bull. Mounting the Hide: The preserved rat hide is carefully fitted over the form. The taxidermist stitches it in place, ensuring a natural look and proper alignment of the fur. Detailing: The rat's eyes, ears, and facial features are carefully crafted and positioned for a lifelike appearance. The pose is fine-tuned to make it look like the rat is actively riding the bull. Bull Model: A miniature bull model is prepared, either crafted from scratch or purchased. The model is detailed to match aPost: 5 August 09:13

A hunter with his hunting fox. Canada, 1942. There is no historical evidence that foxes were used as hunting companions in Canada during the 1940s—or at any time in Canadian history. Unlike dogs, falcons, or even horses, foxes were not domesticated or trained for cooperative hunting in North America, including by Indigenous peoples or European settlers. Foxes in Canada were primarily associated with the fur trade, not hunting partnerships. The country had a well-established fur industry, and fox farming—especially for silver, red, and Arctic foxes—was a significant rural enterprise, particularly in the Canadian Maritimes, the Prairies, and the North. Fur farms proliferated in the early 20th century, peaking in the 1920s–1940s, when luxurious fox fur coats were in high demand in Europe and the United States. Wild foxes were trapped for their pelts, often using steel leg-hold traps or snares. Trappers—many of them Indigenous or Métis, or non-Indigenous residents of remote regions—reliPost: 3 October 17:35

A marten is a weasel-like mammal in the genus Martes within the subfamily Guloninae, in the family Mustelidae. They have bushy tails and large paws with partially retractile claws. The fur varies from yellowish to dark brown, depending on the species; it is valued by animal trappers for the fur trade. Martens are slender, agile animals, adapted to living in the taiga, which inhabit coniferous and northern deciduous forests across the Northern Hemisphere.Post: 20 October 17:44

Every year I take a Christmas break from the trap line to put up fur. I flesh, dry leather, then turn fur side out and pin. This is the most cats I’ve done in a day and I’m beat. Now I will get the possession tags back on, hang and let dry at precisely 55 degrees with the fans on. After they are dry, I’ll dry clean with borax so they come out beautiful, clean and fluffy!Post: 20 December 17:58

Taxidermy, the intricate art of preserving animal specimens, has long captivated the hearts of hunters and nature enthusiasts alike. Among the bounty of the wilderness, the capercaillie and the black grouse stand out as regal representatives of avian wildlife, emblematic of the untamed forests they inhabit. Their vibrant plumage and majestic postures become timeless reminders of the beauty of nature when preserved through taxidermy. The process itself is both an art and a science, requiring a deft touch and keen understanding of anatomy. Each step, from skinning to mounting, is meticulously executed to ensure the resulting display is a lifelike homage to the creature's former existence. Hunters often seek to immortalize their trophies, capturing the essence of the hunt and the thrill of the chase. Beyond mere decoration, taxidermy serves an educational purpose, sparking curiosity about biodiversity and the ecological significance of these species. Taxidermy: Turning Your Kill into a Lasting Trophy Taxidermy isn't just stuffing an animal; it's an art and a science. It's about recreating a lifelike representation of your kill, preserving the memory of the hunt for years to come. Why Bother with Taxidermy? Respect: You put in the time, skill, and effort. A mount is a way to respect the animal and the hunt. Memories: It's a tangible reminder of the hunt: the stalk, the shot, the terrain. A mount brings those memories flooding back. Bragging Rights: Let's be honest, it's a conversation starter. A well-done mount is a testament to your skill as a hunter. Decoration: It adds a unique and rugged aesthetic to your cabin, man cave, or home. Choosing a Taxidermist: Don't Skimp This is where you can't afford to cut corners. A bad taxidermist can ruin a trophy. Here's what to look for: Experience: How long have they been in the game? Look for a taxidermist with years of experience. Ermine fur was used in the 15th century by Catholic monarchs, who sometimes used it as the mozzetta cape. It has long been used on the ceremonial robes of members of the UK House of Lords. It was also used in capes on images such as the Infant Jesus of Prague. Post: 22 July 19:17

Inuit (Aleutian) in a park made from the insides of a sea lion. Nome, Alaska. The year is 1900. Arctic hunters most often make trousers and shoes from the skins of marine mammals, and outerwear from deer skins and warm it with fox, squirrel or arctic fox fur. Among the hunters of Chukotka, rovduga is widely used – suede made of elk or deer skins. Eskimos and Aleutian sea hunters sew unique, authentic waterproof camel lace anoraks. We all use lightweight waterproof raincoats. No fisherman or hunter can do without them, mushroom pickers and outdoor vacationers always take raincoats with them. Modern raincoats are made of plastic or a special impregnated material. However, among the northern peoples, such cloaks are made from natural materials, from the insides of walruses, seals and sea lions. 🦌✨ Behold the spirit of the forest, frozen in time — a majestic trophy stag, crowned with a breathtaking constellation of antlers. Each branching point feels like a relic of ancient magic, telling silent stories of moonlit woods and wild, unspoken wisdom. This isn’t just taxidermy. It’s a portal — a symbol of nature’s power, beauty, and mystery. A magical deer, captured in eternal stillness, glowing with quiet grandeur.Post: 11 July 18:10
Taxidermy Is Art. No Debates Needed. 🎯 I hunt because I love nature. I mount trophies because I respect it. Taxidermy isn’t some weird obsession or macho flex. It’s the way I capture the wild — raw and honest. That moment when I locked eyes with a rutting buck, or the adrenaline when the boar came crashing through the thicket… a picture fades. A head mount? That’s memory solidified. That’s real. Some folks say it’s just “stuffed animals.” Yeah? Then you’ve never watched a true taxidermist breathe life back into glass eyes and cured hide. It takes more than glue and foam — it takes knowledge, precision, and soul. That’s craftsmanship. That’s art. These trophies on my wall? They aren’t kills. They’re chapters. They’re why I remember every sunrise I froze through, every footprint I followed, every time I sat in complete silence — just waiting. I don’t do it for show. I do it because the wild deserves to be remembered properly. Call it what you want. I call it respect in its purest,Post: 7 July 20:05

The sable is a mammal of the genus of martens. It is widespread in the forest zone of Siberia, the edge of its range extends to the north of Eastern Europe. The body length of the sable is 32-58 cm, the tail is 9-17 cm, and the weight is 0.9—1.8 kg. Males are larger than females. Sable fur is one of the most valuable, which is why sable has been exterminated for centuries. On the other hand, the extraction of sable and the trade in sable fur has long served as one of the significant income items in the Russian economy. Sable is of great importance in Russian culture and traditions. In some Russian folk wedding songs, the sable is the personification of the groom, while the paired character, the bride, is the marten. The images of the groom are especially clear, as the sable appears in the North Russian wedding songs. In the Belarusian tradition, a young couple is symbolized by a sable and a squirrel. Sable is of particular importance in the Buryat culture. The sable was a totemic aPost: 6 January 18:02

Meet Gumara, an endangered Sunda clouded leopard that calls Gembira Loka Zoo Yogyakarta home. Looking at his photo, you might be thinking Gumara doesn’t look like your typical clouded leopard, and you’d be right. Sunda clouded leopards were classified as a distinct species in 2006, and can be distinguished from others by their darker fur and smaller cloud pattern. Restricted to the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, this species faces threats similar to others living in the area - deforestation, illegal hunting, and the wildlife trade.Post: 12 December 09:14
