Bear hunting with Laika ( Russian husky ) On this video shown the most correct, typical LAIKA work (hunt) on a bear. The Russian word LAIKA (лайка) is a noun derived from the verb layat' (лаять, to bark), and literally means barker. As the name of a dog variety, it is used not only in Russian cynological literature, but sometimes in other languages as well to refer to all varieties of hunting dogs traditionally kept by the peoples of the northern Russia and adjacent areas. Laikas are aboriginal spitz from Northern Russia, especially Siberia but also sometimes expanded to include Nordic hunting breeds. Laika breeds are primitive dogs who flourish with minimal care even in hostile weather. Laika is a universal breed of hunting dog. Generally, laika breeds are expected to be versatile hunting dogs, capable of hunting game of a variety of sizes by treeing small game, pointing and baying larger game and working as teams to corner bear and boar. Hunting regs, deer hunting licenses now available Deer hunting licenses can be purchased starting today and the 2022 Minnesota hunting regulations are now available here. Print copies of the regulations will be available in early August wherever licenses are sold. When deer hunters venture out into fields and forests this fall, they will find healthy deer populations faring well in most of Minnesota, ample harvest opportunities, and a continued commitment to managing chronic wasting disease management adaptively statewide. “We’re excited about deer hunting this year,” said Kelly Straka, wildlife section manager for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. “Hunters in 20% of our deer permit areas will have increased opportunities for harvest, and opportunities in 70% of DPAs remain unchanged from last year. In some areas of northern Minnesota, severe winter conditions have impacted low deer numbers, so hunter opportunity in these areas is designed to help stabilize or increase Post: 15 August 10:19

New rule gives Colorado authority over gray wolf management With Colorado’s gray wolf reintroduction deadline looming, the state just received some good news regarding gray wolf management. This week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) finalized a rule, 10j, that will allow the state to create its own rules for what’s considered a “nonessential experimental population,” according to Channel 9 News. This is a big step for the reintroduction effort in a measure that was approved by voters back in 2020, which requires Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to reintroduce wolves to the state by Dec. 31, 2023. CPW announced on Twitter/X that “10j gives us gray wolf management flexibility,” which includes determining when it will be permissible to kill a problem wolf. 10j was supported by local ranchers who, per the state’s management plan, will be allowed to kill wolves if they catch one “actively trying to kill livestock,” according to Channel 9 News. Without this rule in place, the Post: 21 November 18:08

Dogs are our friends, guardians, and, at one time, providers. Dogs and their owners hunted together 20,000 years ago, and some continue to do so today. Man no longer depends on wild game for survival, but hunting still has a place in the modern world. While agricultural improvements and the domestication of livestock lessened our dependence on hunting for survival, in its place, hunting for sport evolved. Even though hunting can be a controversial subject, there are many man-dog partnerships that participate in the sport in a respectful, responsible fashion that strengthens their bond.Post: 25 May 20:32

Cyclists hospitalised after hornet attack in France What are hornets? Hornets are the largest of the wasp family native to Europe. Like bees, hornets live in large colonies with a single queen and thousands of workers and build their nests from tree fibres. While hornets usually prefer to avoid contact with humans, they will sting as a defence mechanism in response to having their nest disturbed, and can be aggressive near their food source too. Hornets hunt insects like beetles, moths, dragonflies and wasps. They will also eat rotting fruit they might find on the ground.Post: 9 August 18:21

RikaNV Team Successes: Wolf Hunting in Belarus Good morning from the RikaNV team! Today we are happy to share with you the impressive results of our wolf hunt in Belarus. While Evgeny Golubev was representing our team at an exhibition in Moscow, our hunters received a signal about a pack of wolves and did not miss the chance. Wolves are one of the most cunning predators, and hunting them requires high training and professionalism. Our team, consisting of experienced hunters, left for the place on the signal. A pack of five wolves approached the hunters almost immediately, which became a real test for our team. Before leaving, we carefully prepared: we studied the habits of wolves, chose the best places for observation and hunting. Teamwork and coordinated actions allowed us to achieve success. Soon we will release a detailed video, where we will show all the stages of the hunt and share our impressions. We are sure that this will be interesting not only for our subscribers, but alsPost: 17 October 09:23
Public comment period extended for Montana grizzly bear management plan If you are interested in reviewing Montana’s draft grizzly bear management plan and environmental impact statement (EIS), you have a bit more time to do so. The public comment period has been extended until Feb. 4. “We know the holidays are a busy time for people and their families,” said Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (MFWP) Director Hank Worsech. “We want to make sure people have a chance to share their best ideas with us and so extending the comment period by 30 days will allow for that.” The draft plan and EIS will serve as a guide to long-term management and conservation of grizzly bears across the state, according to a press release. MFWP used existing bear plans and conservation strategies, the federal recovery plan and work conducted by the Grizzly Bear Advisory Council to draft it. If approved, this new plan will become the new statewide plan that allows for the “long-term viability of grizzly bears wPost: 21 December 10:15
The Mid-Gun-Season Blues: When Times Get Tough Morning Hunts I believe your chances are best during this period when you hunt a morning stand back in the timber. When the pressure is on, an old deer feels most comfortable cruising around or pushing a doe on a hardwood ridge or in a cedar draw or creek bottom. By that time, he should have gone completely nocturnal, but deep woods give him a false sense of security. A buck believes he’s hidden in the trees, but he’s not if you’re posted there. Set up early, and look for a good deer ghosting around at dawn. Then keep hanging tough. Each day into midseason, you’ll hear fewer gunshots and see fewer hunters stomping around the woods. Most of the die-hards who, like you, haven’t tagged out will hunt a couple of hours in morning and afternoon. At midday, things will settle down, and some deer will get up and move. You might still nail a good buck between 9 a.m. and noon.Post: 14 December 18:45

Cube the meat into pieces that are about the size of a golf ball. “Cold pack” the raw meat into the quart jar, leaving about 1 inch of headspace. Use a spoon to tightly pack in the meat. Don’t add any liquid, as the meat will create natural juices during the canning process. Put 1 teaspoon of non-iodized salt, ¼ teaspoon of black pepper, and two cloves of garlic on top of the meat. Adding a few slices of green pepper or onion is optional, and note that a little bit of flavor while canning will go a long way. Place on lid and screw on ring. Put your jars in the canner.
