🦌 Game Fair France 2025 - A Hunter’s Perspective 🇫🇷 Just got back from the Game Fair 2025 in Lamotte-Beuvron, France - and let me tell you, it was an absolute paradise for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The atmosphere? Electric. The gear? Next-level. The people? Some of the most passionate and knowledgeable folks I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. From handcrafted rifles to beautifully tuned duck calls, every booth had something worth stopping for. I was especially impressed by the innovations in sustainable hunting gear - lighter packs, high-performance camouflage, and some top-notch optics. The live demos and shooting ranges were a great chance to put the latest equipment to the test right on the spot. One of the highlights was connecting with other hunters from across Europe and beyond. We swapped stories, shared techniques, and built friendships around a fire and a good old-fashioned wild game grill-up. Can’t beat that. For anyone in the hunting world, Game Fair Franc

What Gear Do I Need for My First Hunt? A Professional Hunter’s Guide Stepping into the world of hunting is more than just buying a rifle and heading into the woods. It’s about preparation, respect for the land, and having the right gear to ensure safety, success, and ethical practice. As someone who’s spent decades in the field — from frosty dawns in the Midwest to dry stalks in the Southwest — I’ve seen firsthand what gear matters and what’s just dead weight. This guide breaks down the essential hunting gear every beginner needs for their first hunt, based on real-world experience and practical use — not marketing hype. 🎯 1. The Right Weapon for the Game Your firearm or bow is your primary tool. Choose it based on the species you’re hunting and your local regulations. • Rifle: For deer, a bolt-action rifle chambered in .243, .270, or .308 is ideal for beginners — manageable recoil, good accuracy, and widely available ammo. • Shotgun: If you’re hunting birds or small game, a 12 o

Guns and Gear for an Alaska Caribou Hunt Editor's Note: Contributor Brad Fitzpatrick put the following gear to use on a recent Alaska caribou hunt. You can catch up on that story here. Savage 110 Ultralite Savage’s new 110 Ultralite weighs just 6 pounds thanks to its polymer stock and carbon fiber barrel. Chambered in .280 Ackley Improved, the rifle is reliable and accurate and suitable for just about any North American game. Its stock allows for comb height and length-of-pull adjustments, and the adjustable Savage AccuTrigger came set at a crisp 2.5 pounds. MSRP: $1,595; savagearms.com. Hornady GMX Handloads I used handloads topped with Hornady’s 150-grain GMX. The GMX is a monolithic bullet and is versatile for big game, particularly at extended ranges because it performs reliably at relatively low velocities. The GMX has also proven to be very accurate out of several rifles I’ve tested, including the Savage. (The GMX bullet has now been replaced by Hornady’s new CX bullet). Leup

Yakut moose is now even more accessible To receive the 🏆 "Russian Super Cup" prize in the KGO, a Yakut moose trophy must be harvested. And in general, the trophy will be of interest to all collectors. The Yakut moose 🫎 in the shape and size of its antlers is more similar to a large European moose, good specimens of which have been successfully harvested in the Chelyabinsk region in recent years. In a very frosty climate of -50 and with poor nutrition, the antlers of the "Yakuts" never reach the size of the Chukchi ones. When serious frosts come, the moose goes out into open spaces and starts moving so as not to freeze. Therefore, in Yakutia, local hunters prefer to go moose when the cold weather begins 🥶 from -40 ° C. 🗓 Hunting season: from September to January. ℹ️ Individual hunting or up to 2 people in a group. Each hunter is provided with personal transport, a driver and a guide. The cost of 3 days of hunting, including 1 Yakut moose trophy, is 700,000 rubles. For detail

Living in Alaska, another part of our efforts to be self-sufficient is living off the land as much as possible. “Filling your freezer” is a common phrase here, and there are a lot of ways to do it. Many of you know there are still a lot of places in the U.S. where we can still do this. We’re blessed to be able to fish in rivers, lakes and the ocean, and hunt for a variety of wild game. We do have a little advantage up here for that, (but we also pay a bit of a price for it). Besides fishing and hunting, there a lot of foraging opportunities as well, mostly in the summer, but some when it’s cold and dark too. Hunting and fishing is huge up here, and a lot of folks live here just for that. There are lots more things you can do besides these examples. What are some of the things you all hunt, fish, and forage for?

Tips for Camouflage in Hunting: Choosing the Right Camouflage, Blending In, and Minimizing Noise Effective #camouflage is key to a successful #hunt, as blending into the environment lets hunters approach their target undetected. Here are some tips on choosing the right #camouflage_gear, staying hidden in the forest or open areas, and minimizing noise. Camouflage: How to Choose the Right One The choice of camouflage depends on the terrain, season, and time of day. In the forest, green and brown tones help blend in with trees and foliage, while in winter conditions, a white-grey camouflage works best on snowy terrain. For hunting in open plains, beige and brown colors are better, blending in with grass and dry landscapes. Seasonal #hunting_camouflage also varies: summer clothing is lightweight and breathable, while winter gear is warm and can come with snow covers. Blending in on Different Terrains Beyond camouflage, choose #hunting_gear that doesn’t stand out in the environment. Hats

Hunting With Dogs: Training & Safety Tips Hunting with your dog is an exhilarating way to experience outdoor life with your furred friend. Dogs have been hunting with humans for millennia. Many hunting breeds were actually developed specifically to find, flush out, or retrieve game. But that doesn’t mean that your dog will automatically know what to do on a hunt. Before you head out in search of game with your canine companion, you’ll need to train your dog. Aside from helping you find and retrieve the quarry you’re after, dogs also must become used to loud sounds like gunshots. You’ll also need to bring along the proper hunting gear necessary to keep your dog safe and satisfied in the field. Get Your Dog Used To Gunshots Gunshots are loud and can spook your dog into running off in the middle of a hunt. That’s why gun training is so important. As someone who’s spent countless dawns in the woods, boots soaked and breath fogging in the cold, I can tell you this: hunting isn’t just about the shot - it’s about preparation. Whether you’re stalking elk in the Rockies, waiting on whitetail in a tree stand, or calling ducks from a blind, the gear you carry can make or break your hunt. So, what should every hunter have? Let me walk you through the essentials - not just the obvious ones, but the real-world tools that seasoned hunters never leave behind. 🎯 1. Pro tip: Always zero your scope before the season starts. A missed shot due to poor sighti

Last weekend, I embarked on an unforgettable hunting trip in the heart of California’s wilderness. The journey began at the crack of dawn, with the sun casting a golden hue over the sprawling landscapes of the San Bernardino National Forest. Talarik Creek Lodge: Hunting for Trophy Rainbow Trout I answered him that it was not, and he shrugged off the 18-inch Arctic grayling on the end of my line like it was a piece of weed. My wife had sent us fishing that evening to catch some fresh grayling for dinner and our goal was now achieved, with four large, translucent-white-fleshed fish having been plucked from the cold waters of the Newhalen River. The author’s son Lucas with what he calls “a real fish” also defined as any rainbow trout over 20 inches caught on a fly rod. What is it about rainbow trout that incites such excitement? I have a personal admiration for the green-speckled creatures, and rainbow trout fishing has a cult following tha
