Fox Foxes are small to medium-sized, omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae. They have a flattened skull, upright, triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail (or brush). Twelve species belong to the monophyletic "true foxes" group of genus Vulpes. Approximately another 25 current or extinct species are always or sometimes called foxes; these foxes are either part of the paraphyletic group of the South American foxes, or of the outlying group, which consists of the bat-eared fox, gray fox, and island fox. Foxes live on every continent except Antarctica. The most common and widespread species of fox is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) with about 47 recognized subspecies. The global distribution of foxes, together with their widespread reputation for cunning, has contributed to their prominence in popular culture and folklore in many societies around the world. Yakut moose is now even more accessible To receive the 🏆 "Russian Super Cup" prize in the KGO, a Yakut moose trophy must be harvested. And in general, the trophy will be of interest to all collectors. The Yakut moose 🫎 in the shape and size of its antlers is more similar to a large European moose, good specimens of which have been successfully harvested in the Chelyabinsk region in recent years. In a very frosty climate of -50 and with poor nutrition, the antlers of the "Yakuts" never reach the size of the Chukchi ones. When serious frosts come, the moose goes out into open spaces and starts moving so as not to freeze. Therefore, in Yakutia, local hunters prefer to go moose when the cold weather begins 🥶 from -40 ° C. 🗓 Hunting season: from September to January. ℹ️ Individual hunting or up to 2 people in a group. Each hunter is provided with personal transport, a driver and a guide. The cost of 3 days of hunting, including 1 Yakut moose trophy, is 700,000 rubles. For detail

CPW RESCUE TIRE-BOUND ELK After a couple years of living life with a tire stuck around its neck, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) were able to finally tranquilize the bull elk and free it of the object. Last weekend, during CPW’s fourth attempt at capturing the animal, officers were able to cut the animal’s five-point antlers and remove the heavy, old tire, the Denver Post reports. “It was tight removing it,” said Scott Murdoch. “It was not easy for sure, we had to move it just right to get it off because we weren’t able to cut the steel in the bead of the tire. Fortunately, the bull’s neck still had a little room to move. We would have preferred to cut the tire and leave the antlers for his rutting activity, but the situation was dynamic and we had to just get the tire off in any way possible.” Murdoch and fellow CPW officer Dawson Swanson responded to the report of the elk by a resident last Saturday. The animal was on private property off of County Road 126 about a mile south of

How many crocodile teeth? What is special about crocodile teeth? How strong is a crocodile bite? The teeth of the crocodiles order are remarkable (and they are placed in a reinforced skull with the most powerful biting muscles). Do crocodiles lose their teeth with age? Extant crocodiles are polyphiodonts, that is, their teeth are continually replaced during a large part of their life. Firstly, each tooth is renewed in 1-2 years (their teeth are hollow inside, and brand-new and sharp teeth develop in these cavities as they wear out). Secondly, unlike most reptiles, crocodiles have a peculiar differentiation of teeth in size, shape, and even function. At the beginning of each jaw, there are four large canine teeth that serve to effectively capture prey. In the middle of the jaw, the teeth are thicker, increase in length more evenly and form a kind of scissor bite that allows you to cut the fillets of the deceased corpse of the captured victim. At the base of the jaw, the teeth expa

The Grizzly Bear Chair is a gift from hunter Seth Kinman to President Andrew Johnson. 1865, USA Seth Kinman (September 29, 1815 – February 24, 1888) was an early settler of Humboldt County, California, a hunter based in Fort Humboldt, a famous chair maker, and a nationally recognized entertainer. He stood over 6 ft (1.83 m) tall and was known for his hunting prowess and his brutality toward bears and Indian warriors. Kinman claimed to have shot a total of over 800 grizzly bears, and, in a single month, over 50 elk. He was also a hotel keeper, saloon keeper, and a musician who performed for President Lincoln on a fiddle made from the skull of a mule. The Grizzly Bear Chair is a unique chair presented to Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States, in 1865. It was made of bear skin and decorated in a style popular at the time. The wild boar (Sus scrofa), also known as the wild swine, common wild pig, Eurasian wild pig, or simply wild pig, is a suid native to much of Eurasia and North Africa, and has been introduced to the Americas and Oceania. The species is now one of the widest-ranging mammals in the world, as well as the most widespread suiform. It has been assessed as least concern on the IUCN Red List due to its wide range, high numbers, and adaptability to a diversity of habitats. It has become an invasive species in part of its introduced range. Wild boars probably originated in Southeast Asia during the Early Pleistocene and outcompeted other suid species as they spread throughout the Old World As of 1990, up to 16 subspecies are recognized, which are divided into four regional groupings based on skull height and lacrimal bone length. The species lives in matriarchal societies consisting of interrelated females and their young (both male and female). Let me walk you through the essentials - not just the obvious ones, but the real-world tools that seasoned hunters never leave behind. 🎯 1. But don’t just bring your firearm-bring the right ammunition, and plenty of it. I’ve seen hunts ruined because someone packed the wrong grain or gauge. Pro tip: Always zero your scope before the season starts. A missed shot due to poor sighti

You’d probably think I was blowing smoke, but I’m talking about one of the most neglected and productive hunts in the U.S.—for common tree squirrels. Squirrel seasons start now, in the lazy days of late summer, giving you time (and an excuse) to get out in the woods to scout for deer while also ground-truthing the gear that you’ll rely on all autumn. But you don’t need an excuse to go squirrel hunting. The first argument in its favor is that squirrels live almost everywhere, from the leafy hardwoods of the East to the piney woods of the South to the mountains of the West. Squirrel hunting is also a great way to introduce new shooters to small-game hunting. The two squirrel spe

SUMMER PREP EQUALS A BETTER FALL DEER SEASON Don't wait until the season starts. It’s hard to think about frosty mornings at hunting camp this time of the year. The outside temperature for many of us is still hovering around the triple-digit mark, and the air is so thick you could probably squeeze water out of it if you made a fist. But now is exactly when you need to be putting in the work for the upcoming season. UPGRADE YOUR GEAR Think back to last season. Did a fogged scope cost you a big buck? Did your treestand squeak when you tried to get into position for a shot? Did you leave a hunt early or skip going out altogether because of inclement weather? Now is the time to remedy all those problems. Available stock on sporting goods always seems to be in short supply just before season. Don’t wait until the gear you need is sold out before you start shopping. Purchasing early also allows you to get familiar with your new equipment, particularly firearms and optics. Not having to

Soldiers of the elite guard unit of the Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in a leopard skin uniform, 1960, Tehran. Persian leopards are one of the largest subspecies of leopards in the world. Their body length ranges from 126 to 183 cm, and their tail is 94-116 cm long. The skull is 20-25 cm long in males and 20-22 cm in females. The upper teeth of males reach a length of 68-75 mm, in females they are 64-67 mm. The height of the animal is approximately 76 cm, the average weight reaches 70 kg. In general, it is a very cautious and secretive animal. A leopard usually tries to hide, but when defending itself, it can even attack humans. He chooses gorges with streams or dense thickets as shelters. In deciduous forests, it can climb high into trees. It is not afraid of frosts and heat, but the predator usually stays far from reservoirs. The distribution range of this subspecies is quite wide, starting from the Main Caucasian Ridge and continuing to the Red Sea, and from the Bosphorus Ch

Browning Auto-5 (A-5) Shotgun Review: System, Modifications, Calibers, Price, Facts. The Browning Auto-5, often referred to as the A-5, is more than just a shotgun — it’s a piece of firearms history. Designed by the legendary John Moses Browning in 1898 and patented in 1900, the Auto-5 was the first successful semi-automatic shotgun ever produced. With over 2.7 million units manufactured across Belgium, the United States, and Japan, this firearm has earned its place as a favorite among hunters, trap shooters, and collectors alike. 🔧 Design & Operating System A5 The Browning Auto-5 uses a long-recoil operated system, a mechanism where the barrel and bolt recoil together after firing, then separate to eject the spent shell and chamber the next round. This system was revolutionary at the time and remains one of the most reliable semi-auto shotgun actions ever developed. • Action Type: Semi-automatic, long-recoil • Feed System: Tubular magazine (4+1 capacity) • Safety: Crossbolt or tr

How Does Benelli’s Inertia-Driven System Work? A Hunter’s Deep Dive into Legendary Reliability If you’ve ever shouldered a Benelli shotgun in the field, you’ve likely felt the difference. It’s not just the balance or the Italian craftsmanship - it’s the Inertia-Driven® system, the heart of Benelli’s semi-automatic legacy. As a lifelong hunter and firearms enthusiast, I’ve trusted this system in rain, snow, dust, and heat. Let me break down how it works, why it matters, and what makes it stand apart from gas-operated shotguns. ⚙️ The Core Principle: Recoil, Not Gas Unlike gas-operated shotguns that siphon off combustion gases to cycle the action, Benelli’s Inertia-Driven system uses pure recoil energy. When you fire a shell, the entire shotgun moves backward—except for the bolt body, which momentarily resists due to inertia. This delay compresses a spring between the bolt head and bolt body. Once the spring reaches full compression, it expands, driving the bolt rearward to eject the

With its durability and transfixing swirl of translucent amber and brown layers, tortoiseshell has been used for centuries to make everything from jewelry to combs to dishware. “It was plastic before plastic was invented because it’s so malleable,” says Brad Nahill, co-founder and president of turtle conservation group SEE Turtles and a National Geographic Explorer. Named SEE Shell, the app uses machine learning to identify with 94 percent accuracy whether a photo of something with a tortoiseshell pattern is real or faux. It’s the first mobile app to use computer vision to combat the illegal wildlife trade, according to Alexander Robillard, a predoctoral fellow with the Smithsonian’s Data Science Lab who built the computer model that powers it, and it will help inform conservation-m

The Arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos), also known as the white wolf or polar wolf, is a subspecies of grey wolf native to the High Arctic tundra of Canada's Queen Elizabeth Islands, from Melville Island to Ellesmere Island. Unlike some populations that move between tundra and forest regions, Arctic wolves spend their entire lives north of the northern treeline. Their distribution to south is limited to the northern fringes of the Middle Arctic tundra on the southern half of Prince of Wales and Somerset Islands. It is a medium-sized subspecies, distinguished from the northwestern wolf by its smaller size, its whiter colouration, its narrower braincase, and larger carnassials. Since 1930, there has been a progressive reduction in size in Arctic wolf skulls, which is likely the result of wolf-dog hybridization.

Chief Ranger Sam Woodring stands outside a deer antler house in Yellowstone National Park, USA, 1928. Sam T. Woodring is known to history as the first superintendent at Grand Teton National Park, a chief ranger at Yellowstone National Park and as a U.S. Army veteran. He assisted presidents and helped build Grand Teton’s trail system; a peak in the park is named in his honor. Mount Woodring (11,595 feet (3,534 m)) is located in the Teton Range, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. The mountain is immediately west of Leigh Lake and is sandwiched between Paintbrush Canyon to the south and Leigh Canyon to the north. The best access to the summit is from Paintbrush Divide along the Paintbrush Canyon Trail. Mount Woodring bears the name of Grand Teton National Park’s first superintendent Woodring. Over his 13 years in the military, Sam T. Woodring primarily served as a packer, with his service taking him to Cuba, the Philippines and Mexico. Woodring later helped the Army administer Yellow

Finally, conservationists have created a whale wash to clean skin parasites from whales! Well... of course you realized that it's all a hat)) No one created a whale wash, it's all fun with a neural network. But what kind of parasites can be found on whales? A lot of people, actually. For example, whale lice. Whale lice are crustaceans from the order bokoplavov. They live on the skin of cetaceans (especially in the area of the anal and genital openings) and feed on their tissues — with severe infection, this leads to the formation of ulcers reaching the layer of subcutaneous fat. In warm waters, mixins and leeches cling to whales. To get a better grip, the mixin is even tied in a knot. Voracious leeches are capable of swallowing meat 8 times their own weight in 7 hours. Balanus can also be found on whales. These are barnacles, but they do not eat their host, but use it as a means of transportation. An adult balanus sits in a lime shell that is firmly attached to something. The p

The SPAS-12 was designed to function primarily in semi-automatic mode, with the pump-action mode used to reliably fire low-pressure ammunition such as tear gas rounds or less-lethal bean bags. The firing mode is switched by depressing the button under the fore-grip and also sliding it forwards or backwards until it clicks into position allowing the rotating sleeve to open or close the two gas ports. The semi-automatic mode functions with a short-stroke gas piston system. When a shell is fired, the pressure makes the bolt move rearward but the bolt will stop before opening as it deploys a single top locking lug. The gas vents into the barrel and the gas port is located towards the end of the barrel. From the gas port, the gas vents downwards into the gas block where it pushes the piston rearward. Because of the presence of the magazine tube and to avoid the use of a top-mounted gas system, the gas block and the piston are annular, along with the piston spring they enclose the magazine
