"Norway - 'King of the Forest' is Causing a Stir" The moose is called the "king of the forest". There are good reasons for that, it is Norway's largest mammal on land. "I have never seen anything like it, and I have seen many animals throughout my photography career, says photographer Thomas Mørch." He is talking about the spotted elk that walks around Hallingdal. A few years ago Albin the albino moose became such a big celebrity that the hunting teams protected him. A white national treasure, which was felled by a Danish hunter in 2011 who had not caught the "protection". Now the forest has a new moose that stands out. It is not completely white, but mottled. >>Full article link: https://www.nrk.no/osloogviken/flekkete-elg-vekker-oppsikt-_-er-rammet-av-piebaldisme-1.16675513?fbclid=IwAR0zT8q25thsHFWt0nMJHu8S0IwL5Oig3tfbkanFiP6QSXicYBG3Nqa5EW0 Post: 3 January 18:34

Horses are like people; there are good, bad, and indifferent among them. Some are kind and generous; others are bad-tempered and better left alone. Alaska officials have cancelled the upcoming snow crab season, due to population decline across the Bering Sea. The fall Bristol Bay red king crab harvest will not happen. The winter harvest of smaller snow crab has also been cancelled for the first time. The causes of the population collapse are being researched but likely include increased predation and stresses from warmer water, which the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) believes may have prompted the crabs to shift away from coasts. ALPINE IBEX HUNTING IN AUSTRIA Scientific name: Capra Ibex In the 17th century the Alpine Ibex was almost eradicated. For the people the ibex was a mystical animal and they believed that its bones, blood and even the excrements have a healing effect. Thank God, King Victor Emmanuell II of Sardinia, that he took the Alpine Ibex under protection and assured thus the stock of them . Today we have a very good population in Austria of Alpine Ibex along the main alps, but the number of licenses each year is still very limited. The Alpine Ibex is active during the day and primarily hunted by stalking and by observing from seats, in the morning and in the afternoon. Depending on the time of the year the hunt takes place all day long.Post: 23 May 14:02

After my weekend training in Moscow shooting club, I remembered an outstanding meeting. It took place last September at the ADIHEX 2024, Abu Dhabi hunting exhibition. On a photo one of the fastest shooters on the planet, Raniero Testa. He had already set several world records and continues to surprise with new ones. Only after trying yourself in some kind of sport or art, you can really understand how difficult it is. What kind of effort and dedication does it take to become the best in what you do. I have great respect for all real professionals regardless of the type of activity. Raniero Testa (Italy) holds the record by throwing 17 sports clay targets with his hands and smashing them with 17 shots. And that's not all: the clay targets were hit in a record time of 2.08 seconds. If you count it, it turns out that the combined Raniero/Winchester SX4 produced a rate of fire of 490 rounds per minute – higher than the rate of fire of the M3 “Grease Gun" submachine gun!! The top is mountain hunting. This is a closed hunting club, which is not easy to get into, even if you have money and position in society. First-class physical training is mandatory here: tracking mountain sheep occurs at an altitude above 3 thousand meters. m in difficult weather conditions and not for one or two days, but for weeks. Shooting in the mountains requires special training from the hunter. Not every professional sniper in the conditions of the plain is guaranteed to hit the target from a distance of 400-600 m. And a mountain trophy hunter after a week-long trek at an altitude of 3 thousand. m and above has a chance of only one accurate shot, which is measured in hundreds of meters. The geography of this kind of hunting, without exaggeration, covers the whole world. Each mountain has only its own kind of sheep. In the mountains of Alaska, these are sheep Shares, in the mountains of Iran — a blue ram, in the Pamirs — the most valuable from a trophy point of view, the MarPost: 7 July 09:20
Wines to Pair with Fowl Turkey, goose, pheasant? A free-range chicken, or even a capon? The time of the season seems to indicate fowl. We kind of like the idea, since it is out of the ordinary to roast a big bird for a festive feast, the kind of bird that can feed a dozen. With that comes wine challenges, though to say “challenge” is stretching the truth. That truth is almost any wine can match nicely with a big bird roast, plenty of vegetables, maybe a grilled romaine salad with parmesan and homemade croutons. Some choices: Evolve Cellars pinot blanc ($15), almost Alsatian in style with its crispness, but it is distinctively Okanagan as well, with its viscosity and herbal notes, surrounded by delightful stone fruit elements. A sensationally good sparkling wine, the Cipes Blanc de Franc ($45) from Summerhill Pyramid Winery, is a sparkling cabernet franc, which will turn heads, and have people coming back for more, so you may need to have two bottles. Harris Hawk: One of the Most Popular Birds Used in Falconry, History, Hunting Behavior, Training. The Harris hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) has a legacy that stretches back over 2,000 years. Indigenous tribes like the Aztecs revered these raptors for their intelligence and hunting prowess. By the 16th century, Harris hawks were used in falconry during the reign of King Henry VIII. Their cooperative hunting style and adaptability made them ideal for European terrains, and by the late 1800s, they were imported from the southwestern U.S. and Mexico to Europe for pest control and sport hunting. Today, Harris hawks are flown in falconry across North America, the UK, Spain, and Portugal. Second, your weapon will determine your season, which also determines your experience. It is nearly universal, for example, that archery season for big game happens in September because it coincides with the elk rut (mating season). Hunting during the elk rut is a uniquely powerful experience. During this time, bull elk vie for the attention of cows, piercing the mountain air with their signature bugles, grunts, chuckles, and screams. The ability to hear the animals and understand their intent, and engage in vocal communication with a 600-pound king of the forest, is one of the most intense, thrilling, and addictive elements of archery hunting. Elk language is nuanced and laden with information. As a bowhunter your goal is to paint a picture in the animal’s mind with the timing, location, tone, and intensity of your vocalization. In one situation you might imitate a cow elk looking for love, while in another you might communicate to a bull that you’re a bigger bull ready to rumble. (IfPost: 21 November 18:04
THE WARTHOG IS A DANGEROUS BEAST. After the release of the Disney animated buddy comedy, The Lion King and The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa. Where Timon and Pumbaa, the warthog and the meerkat were responsible for the humorous line, many decided that wild animals can be really cute and funny… In the video, people who have no experience interacting with wild animals are feeding a warthog. At the moment when she tries to stroke him, the warthog cuts through the woman's skin and muscles in the area where the femoral artery passes. Judging by the huge amount of blood that flowed out of the wound in a few seconds, it is more than likely that the warthog's tusk could have cut through part of this important vessel responsible for transporting blood from the heart to the leg. Such injuries, without urgent hospitalization, will lead to dizziness, loss of consciousness and even, in critical cases, death of the victim. Warthogs are not as cute as in the Disney cartoons. They are wild and dangeroPost: 23 January 20:35
Canada goose hunting from kayak. GoPro video. An interesting fact is that of all the subspecies of geese, the Canadian goose flies the worst. This is due to its large weight. That is why the author of the video was in no hurry to get the gun out of the case. Canada geese have been introduced in Europe in the early 17th century by explorer Samuel de Champlain who sent several pairs of geese to France as a present for King Louis XIII. The Canada goose was one of the many species described by Carl Linnaeus in his 18th-century work Systema Naturae. The Canadian goose (Branta canadensis) is a waterfowl from the duck family. It is the most widespread waterfowl in North America: its population exceeds 5 million individuals. The body length of the Canadian goose is 55-110 cm, the wingspan is 120-180 cm, and the weight is 2.0—6.5 kg. The Canadian goose is native to North America. Today, 14 February, in Orthodox calendar is the day of the Holy Tryphon, especially revered in Russia. The holy martyr is highly revered by Russian hunters, being their patron saint. He was depicted on icons with a falcon on his arm, and originally he was on the coat of arms of Moscow. There is a legend that under Tsar John the Terrible, during the royal hunt, the king's beloved gyrfalcon flew away. The tsar ordered the falconer Trifon Patrikeev to find the bird that had flown away. Falconer Trifon toured the surrounding forests, but without success. On the third day, tired of a long search, he stopped near Moscow, in a place now called Maryina Grove, and in exhaustion lay down to rest, having fervently prayed to his patron saint, the martyr Tryphon, asking him for help. In a dream, he saw a young man on a white horse holding a royal gyrfalcon, and this young man said: "Take the missing bird, go with God to the king and don't worry about anything." RED DEER The majestic Red Deer is the king of the French forests. An emblematical animal in Europe and mythical through Saint Hubertus’s legend, the hunters’ Patron Saint : the legend says that On Good Friday morning, when the faithful were crowding the churches, Hubert went anyway after deer. As he was chasing a magnificent white stag the animal turned and, as the pious legend narrates, he was astounded at perceiving a crucifix standing between its antlers and he heard God’s voice talking to him. Commonly present on most territories we hunt, be they in forest areas near Paris or in the south of France. Also impressive with a strong and graceful appearance, big male adults weigh up to 250 kilos (550 lbs). The red deer hunt begins early September to the end of February. The mating season usually takes place from mid-September to mid-October, it is then the best chance to see the biggest males and the most interesting trophies French red deer trophies are often splendid and as diversePost: 26 June 00:01

An old legend tells how a bear and an eagle lived for a long time in peace and harmony with each other. They shared their lives in the forest and often met in a clearing, where they exchanged stories and news. One day, a bear and an eagle argued about which of them was better and stronger. The bear claimed that he was the main master of the forest and had great power, while the eagle objected that he was the king of heaven and had a more majestic appearance. The dispute between them began to heat up, and they could not come to an agreement. Each of them was convinced that he was right and that his point of view was the only true one. Their differences became more and more serious, and they stopped communicating with each other. Thus, the bear and the eagle quarreled and no longer maintained friendly relations. The forest began to lose its harmony, and the animals could no longer enjoy the same freedom as before. This legend reminds us of how hostility and disagreement can destroy hPost: 5 March 22:06

When dreams become real — proud of the hunt, proud of the crew. 🐽 Just wanted to share this moment from our friends’ recent trip to Turkey with CB Wild Hunt. Two incredible boars, each with trophy-grade tusks, taken after days of effort, tracking, and adrenaline. This isn’t staged — it’s the kind of hunt that stays with you for years. For those who know what it’s like to chase wild boar in tough terrain, you’ll appreciate the challenge. These hunters earned every second of it — and you can see it in their faces. Hunts like these remind us why we do it — the camaraderie, the raw nature, and the stories that follow. Respect to the team. That’s one for the books.Post: 19 July 10:29
We don't usually think of moose hunting as the kind of hunting when we need to do a lot of glassing. While standing in a good spot and calling can be successful, my favoured approach is to use optics to locate bulls. Once I have identified a good one, I plan a stalk and get close enough to begin calling. You can see in these images how the team was all glassing. We knew there was a bull out there, but the terrain provided a lot of cover and it wasn't easy to locate him. Once we located him and his cows, we took our bearings and crossed the lake to stalk. Within a short time, we had our bull down. #BBD (big bull down).Post: 21 March 19:14
