Hunting Ammo: What to Look for in a Big-Game Bullet Hunting bullets have come a long way since the first round lead ball was launched game-ward from a long-barreled muzzleloader. Bullets now are long and streamlined, tipped with space-age material, and constructed of copper married to lead through special bonding processes. They are incredibly accurate, highly aerodynamic, and boast superb terminal performance. They are the finest killing projectiles the world has ever known; that’s a great thing for us as hunters. 3 EASY WAYS TO MAKE ANY WILD HOG DELICIOUS A lot of folks get nervous when you start throwing wild pig into the dinner table conversation. Log onto any hunting forum and the majority of people will say they don’t bother eating hogs for any number of reasons—smell, taste, unfounded rumors, you name it. It’s simply the majority mindset, or at least it was. Where I live in Texas, we’re inundated with these feral critters, but there’s a love/hate relationship at play. I hate that they destroy our hay fields, but I love cooking these beasts and do so on a regular basis. Like me, Jesse Griffiths thinks the pig detractors are ill-informed if not crazy, so much so that he wrote a book dedicated to cooking wild hogs. As the owner of the renowned Dai Due in Austin, as well as the mind behind The New School of Traditional Cookery, he’s been waving the banner for wild hogs since before it was fashionable. And people are beginning to catch on. Regardless, there still are some mental and actual ob

Youth have more time to complete hunter education while still hunting this fall. Any youth (age 17 and younger) who has completed an online hunter education class will be able to hunt on their own tag, even if they haven’t completed the required in-person field day. With fewer hunter education classes/field days offered this year due to COVID-19, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will defer the field day requirement for youth hunters for the 2021 hunting season. The field day will still be required to get a hunter education certificate, but can be delayed until after hunting season. “This will provide additional time for any young hunter to get their hunter education certification,” said Antonio Salgado, ODFW Recruitment/Retention/Reactivation Coordinator. “They will still have to complete a field day to be fully certified. Since fewer and smaller hunter ed conventional classes and field days have been offered due to COVID, we didn’t want anyone to miss the chance to hunt this

Hunting in Centre: Peri-urban landscapes, guinea fowl and rodents, Mossi rural memory, informal hunter groups, and weak enforcement structures The shrinking wild around the capital’s shadow The Centre Region of Burkina Faso, home to the nation's capital Ouagadougou, is marked by rapid urban growth, expanding infrastructure, and dense settlement. Yet hidden in the margins of farmland and suburban sprawl lie patches of savannah, seasonal wetlands, and gallery forests that once defined this part of the country. The region’s flat, open terrain was historically rich in small game and birdlife, particularly in the transitional zones between cultivated land and natural bush. Today, these habitats are increasingly fragmented, but they still harbor pockets of wildlife and memories of a hunting culture fading beneath the hum of motorcycles and city lights. The role of hunting in a changing rural-urban landscape Though Centre is not widely known for trophy game or dense forest hunting, the

Red Centre Kangaroo Culling: Balancing Ecology and Hunting Practices, Demographics, Legislation System, Associations and Clubs, Legislation and Hunting Seasons The Red Centre, centered around Alice Springs and Uluru, spans 143,000 km² of semi-arid landscape. This region, receiving just 286mm annual rainfall, features rugged ranges and desert plains, creating a unique hunting environment. The Northern Territory records approximately 3,500 active hunters in Central Australia, with 85% being male, primarily aged 35-60. Notably, 20% are international visitors, while indigenous communities maintain traditional hunting practices. From a hunter's perspective, the Red Centre's topography offers both challenges and rewards. The MacDonnell Ranges provide natural corridors and vantage points for stalking, while the vast open spaces demand exceptional fieldcraft and patience. Your National Rifle Association (NRA) has joined Safari Club International (SCI) and 22 other conservation organizations, representing millions of sportsmen and women across the country, in a letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. Of course, anti-hunting groups immediately sued to put wolves back under the ESA. Although these groups acknowledged that some populations of gray wolves have recovered, they sought to force the Service to restore wolves everywhere—from Maine to Washington State. 12 Reasons Why Your Venison Tastes Like Hell Is your deer meat tough, dry, and gamy? It shouldn’t be. Check out this list of 12 deer-butchering sins to find out why your venison tastes bad — and how to make it better I’m often amazed at the people, deer hunters included, who tell me they just don’t like venison. That statement is usually followed by a qualifier: it’s tough; it’s gamy; it’s dry. And so on. I’ve eaten a lot of good deer meat. But I’ve eaten some really bad deer meat, too. I’m only a self-trained butcher, but I’ve been processing five to six deer a season for the better part of 20 years. When it comes to cooking, I’m no Scott Leysath or Michael Pendley, either, but my wife, kid, and I do eat venison in some form two or three meals per week, year-round. I think we eat pretty good. Some things consistently make venison really tasty. And some things will ruin the flavor, too. Here are a dozen of the worst offenders. 1. Poor Field Care In the real world of hunting, things

Sarah Bowmar and her husband Josh are fitness and hunting influencers on social media. They are known in the hunting community for their hunting YouTube channel Bowmar Bowhunting. The Bowmars have been at the center of many controversies in the hunting community. Josh was famously canceled by the woke anti-hunting mob for his spear hunt of a brown bear and lost his Under Armour sponsorship. The couple was also at the center of a poaching case in Nebraska that seems more and more to be a hit on the couple. They are also constantly attacked because of all their African hunting trips. Sarah has reportedly killed the largest ever crocodile with a bow. While the video and official measurements are not out yet, here are the pictures. The largest Crocodile ever caught and placed in captivity is just over 20 feet long. unofficial rumors have this crock close to 18 feet! We will keep everyone up to date as more information comes in.

Saskatchewan taking steps to control wild boars and feral pigs As wild boars continue to run rampant in Saskatchewan, the provincial government said it is taking steps to address the issue. The province said it will proactively enhance and broaden the regulation and control of wild boars and feral pigs. It will include adding the animals as regulated pests. The president of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities has been calling on the province to shut down the wild boar farms. The province said it is developing regulations for the licensing of existing wild boar farms and imposing a moratorium on new farms. “In

Despite these challenges, hunting remains deeply rooted in the rural rhythm of life, offering not only sustenance but also a cultural bridge between past and present. The Mossi and Fulani hunters: pragmatism and pastoral wisdom In Centre-Nord, hunting traditions are practiced primarily by Mossi farmers and Fulani pastoralists. Fo
