Hunting Ammo: What to Look for in a Big-Game Bullet Hunting bullets have come a long way since the first round lead ball was launched game-ward from a long-barreled muzzleloader. Bullets now are long and streamlined, tipped with space-age material, and constructed of copper married to lead through special bonding processes. They are incredibly accurate, highly aerodynamic, and boast superb terminal performance. They are the finest killing projectiles the world has ever known; that’s a great thing for us as hunters. Hunting in Johannesburg: Geography, Hunting Associations, and Ethical Access to Game Geography and Natural Setting in Johannesburg Johannesburg, South Africa’s economic powerhouse, is a dense urban environment with little to no natural hunting grounds. However, its central location offers quick access to surrounding provinces like Limpopo, North West, and the Free State. These nearby regions host a variety of game farms and private hunting lands, making Johannesburg a key administrative and logistical hub for hunters traveling to the bush. Hunting Population structure The hunting community in Johannesburg includes a mix of first-time hunters, experienced professionals, families, youth participants, and international safari enthusiasts. Due to the city’s strict firearm regulations and lack of public game areas, most hunters are affiliated with formal associations or clubs that offer structure, legal support, and access to ethical hunting opportunities. Youth have more time to complete hunter education while still hunting this fall. Any youth (age 17 and younger) who has completed an online hunter education class will be able to hunt on their own tag, even if they haven’t completed the required in-person field day. With fewer hunter education classes/field days offered this year due to COVID-19, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will defer the field day requirement for youth hunters for the 2021 hunting season. The field day will still be required to get a hunter education certificate, but can be delayed until after hunting season. “This will provide additional time for any young hunter to get their hunter education certification,” said Antonio Salgado, ODFW Recruitment/Retention/Reactivation Coordinator. “They will still have to complete a field day to be fully certified. Since fewer and smaller hunter ed conventional classes and field days have been offered due to COVID, we didn’t want anyone to miss the chance to hunt this

BASC - BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR SHOOTING AND CONSERVATION BASC plays a crucial role in preserving shooting traditions in UK while adapting them to meet modern standards of sustainability and ethics. The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is one of the largest hunting organizations in the UK. TRADITION AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Shooting has deep historical roots in British culture, dating back centuries to medieval times when it was practiced by royalty and nobility. Over time, it became a popular pastime among rural communities, fostering connections between people and the natural world. The origins of BASC date back to the mid-19th century when hunting was an integral part of rural life in Britain. Initially founded as the "National Wildfowlers' Association" in 1865, the organization aimed to protect the rights of wildfowlers (waterfowl hunters) and promote ethical hunting practices. Over time, its scope expanded to include all forms of shooting—game birds, d

Red Centre Kangaroo Culling: Balancing Ecology and Hunting Practices, Demographics, Legislation System, Associations and Clubs, Legislation and Hunting Seasons The Red Centre, centered around Alice Springs and Uluru, spans 143,000 km² of semi-arid landscape. This region, receiving just 286mm annual rainfall, features rugged ranges and desert plains, creating a unique hunting environment. The Northern Territory records approximately 3,500 active hunters in Central Australia, with 85% being male, primarily aged 35-60. Notably, 20% are international visitors, while indigenous communities maintain traditional hunting practices. From a hunter's perspective, the Red Centre's topography offers both challenges and rewards. The MacDonnell Ranges provide natural corridors and vantage points for stalking, while the vast open spaces demand exceptional fieldcraft and patience. The region's sparse vegetation, dominated by spinifex grasslands and acacia shrubs, provides limited cover but excellent

Your National Rifle Association (NRA) has joined Safari Club International (SCI) and 22 other conservation organizations, representing millions of sportsmen and women across the country, in a letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. These organizations “respectfully request that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) appeal the February 10, 2022, decision from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California vacating the 2020 rule removing the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) lists of endangered and threatened species.” In early 2020, the Service removed gray wolves in the lower 48 U.S. States from the ESA lists. Of course, anti-hunting groups immediately sued to put wolves back under the ESA. Although these groups acknowledged that some populations of gray wolves have recovered, they sought to force the Service to restore wolves everywhere—from Maine to Washington State. Your NRA, along with SCI, intervened in these suits to defend the Service’s s

Falconary in China. Mongolian men sell falcons in Beijing. China, circa 1900. Falconry is a very ancient art. According to one version, it originated in Asia. The homeland of falconry in China is considered to be the district of Akhchi Kezilesu-the Kyrgyz Autonomous Region of Xinjiang. One of the small ethnic groups of China, the Kyrgyz, who own falconry techniques and preserve the traditions of this art form, lives compactly in this area. The earliest image of falconary is a bas–relief discovered on the territory of modern Turkey and dated to the 13th century BC. On it, a young man holds a falcon on one hand, and with the other holds a strap that goes to the bird's feet. In the second century BC, the Chinese emperors used trained falcons to catch pheasants. In the III century AD, falconry penetrated from China to Korea and Japan. Already in the XI century AD, falconry in China and than in whole Asia developed as a form of culture. Evolution of hunting laws and wildlife conservation/management Upon what concepts are hunting policies and laws based? Wildlife management and hunting policies have evolved over time, based largely on the “public trust doctrine,” which regards wildlife as held in the public trust and managed by scientifically based regulations. During the last century, sportsmen-conservationists demanded that their government put in place agencies, institutions, laws and regulations to conserve wildlife on behalf of the citizens. As part of that demand, sportsmen/conservationists advocated ethics and self policing by any and all who partake of America’s wild bounty. The laws, rules and regulations governing hunting form a framework for a system that is designed to provide surpluses of certain species of wildlife for hunting and fishing, revenue from which funds the conservation of all wildlife, including species that aren’t hunted. This system provides the agility for wildlife managers to respond to c
