Rewilding: Jaguars return to Argentina’s wetlands 70 years after local extinction Rewilding efforts are returning jaguars, the largest predator in South America, to areas where the species has been driven to local extinction due to hunting and habitat loss. In Argentina, just 200 Jaguars remain, but a reintroduction programme has returned a mother and two cubs to the country’s Iberá wetlands, 70 years after the species was last observed in the region. They are the first of nine jaguars which will be released to repopulate the wetlands, which are a protected area covering almost 700,000 hectares and offering an abundance of wild prey for the big cats. Jaguars are a “keystone species” - an organism vital for the continuation of the local ecosystem - as they control levels of prey which would otherwise overgraze habitats, reducing biodiversity. It is hoped their presence will help wildlife in the wetlands flourish. The adult jaguar, named Mariua by researchers, was born wild before b

Hunting in Brazil: What are the options? Abstract In Brazil most forms of hunting and keeping of wild animals are illegal, although they remain widely practiced and are deeply culturally embedded in many regions. The drivers of such widespread non-compliance are poorly understood and evidence to support future policy decisions is generally lacking. In this paper, we seek to stimulate a critical debate on how to deal with hunting in Brazil by analysing the main factors driving non-compliance with current legislation. This is particularly timely given that several amendments to existing legislation are currently under consideration. Our analysis suggests that, while there are no simple solutions to non-compliance, a targeted suite of the following policy options could improve the monitoring, sustainability and conservation consequences of hunting in Brazil: (i) simplifying the process to become a registered subsistence hunter; (ii) expanding participation in licensing schemes; (iii) inv

Angola While hunting is not currently taking place on a commercial basis in Angola it is looking like a new hot spot and may open up by 2025 with some outstanding Elephant and Cape Buffalo available. We recently looked at some hunting areas in the Cuando Cubango Province near Mavinga and I personally saw buffalo over 45 inches and bull Elephant in the 60–70-pound range. There is already a very nice lodge in place and once the CITES details are worked out this will be the prime area for most hunts in Angola. The first few hunters in country will definitely get the hunting opportunity of a lifetime. If you are interested contact us so we can keep you posted on the progress being made and we can place you on our waiting list so you don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to open a new safari area!!

Talarik Creek Lodge: Hunting for Trophy Rainbow Trout I answered him that it was not, and he shrugged off the 18-inch Arctic grayling on the end of my line like it was a piece of weed. My wife had sent us fishing that evening to catch some fresh grayling for dinner and our goal was now achieved, with four large, translucent-white-fleshed fish having been plucked from the cold waters of the Newhalen River. The author’s son Lucas with what he calls “a real fish” also defined as any rainbow trout over 20 inches caught on a fly rod. What is it about rainbow trout that incites such excitement? Why is it that when fishing guides congregate around a fire the conversation always finds its way to rainbows, not salmon, not char, not pike, but definitely rainbows? “Keep it in the water,” “Careful, don’t drop it,” and “Nice release,” are all phrases I’ve heard said and spoken myself. I have a personal admiration for the green-speckled creatures, and rainbow trout fishing has a cult following tha

Hunting in Kouilou: Coastal Plains, Traditional Hunting Demographics, and Game Species Richness Hunting in Kouilou region, situated in the southwestern corner of the Republic of the Congo, offers a rare blend of coastal plains, mangrove forests, inland savannahs, and tropical lowland jungle. Hotel in Hunting Island What You Will See The Island has three miles of walkable beaches, a historic lighthouse, and ample opportunities for bird watching, fishing, crabbing, or shrimping. Shady picnic tables, showers, dressing rooms make a day trip to the beach manageable. The Island’s marshes there were used for the Vietnam War scenes in the movie Forrest Gump. Jungle and water camp scenes for the movie G.I. Jane were also shot on Hunting Island. As you drive in, you go through a maritime forest with soaring pines and palms. Nestled into this woodland setting is the Visitors Center where you can get a park map and brochure, and see exhibits on the historic lighthouse as well as on the natural flora and fauna. A small auditorium hosts educational programs on the island’s nature and history.

Hunting in Ituri: Rainforest Terrain, Indigenous Hunting Traditions, and Wildlife Richness Ecosystems and Terrain of Ituri The Ituri province in northeastern DRC is home to one of Africa’s most important tropical rainforests—the Ituri Forest. The forest's dense vegetation, coupled with a high diversity of microhabitats, nurtures an exceptional range of wildlife. Ituri's ecological complexity makes it both a challenging and fascinating destination for bushcraft and hunting. Community Engagement and Hunting Populations In Ituri, hunting remains an integral part of life for indigenous groups such as the Mbuti and Efe pygmies, who possess generations of accumulated environmental knowledge. These hunter-gatherer communities rely on sustainable hunting for both nutrition and cultural preservation. While
